Mind your mind.
Rationalisation is just a sophisticated way of lying to yourself.
Your success in life
Will largely be determined by how much people like you.
And, to an extent
By how many people know you.
Some of this is under your control.
Science doesn’t prove anything,
Through the process of elimination, it disproves things.
And what’s left are hypotheses.
These are not ‘true’, but are our best working assumptions,
Waiting to be disproven and replaced by something better.
Don’t take everything at face value
Don’t assume that everything you hear is a lie, either.
Both are heuristics – lazy ways of thinking.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Black and white thinking is unsuited to reality, because reality is complex.
It’s probably healthy to feel cynical about your leaders
Perhaps as a check on the cult of personality.
It’s probably not healthy to feel cynical about your national institutions.
Society is, perhaps, the ultimate social construct;
And a nation exists largely because its people believe in it.
Good people can do bad things
Bad people can do good things
For some reason,
The latter is usually harder to accept.
