#Poem – 25.05.15

Advancing upwards:
You might see
An impasse
Of personal places
Encased in concrete.
Love and life
Nestled into the carapace of the superstructure.
The remaking,
The subdivision,
And
The vertical convergence
Of Humanity.

You could count them:
These people piled high,
Tenants in tenements
That stretch to the sky.
All of them reclaiming
Their god given birthright
To a sense of space
And a place
No matter how small
That they can call their own

#Poem – 19.09.15

One day
You will not be here
I will not be here
Everyone you love
Will not be here
The tenuous framework that holds us all together
Society
Species
Planet
Consciousness
Will have lost the war on entropy

But today we are
Alive
And so existence is
Celebration
Miracle
Cosmic joke
And short term reversal
In the cosmic short position

And you?

You exist as
A reminder
And
A big ‘fuck you’
To the heat death of the universe

You
Once
Were
Nothing
And
You
Could
Be
Anything
Before
You
Are
Nothing
Oncemore

#Idea – ‘Je Suis Charlie’ / 07.01.05

Note: I wrote this as a response to the atrocities that occurred at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris, 2015. I believe it is still relevant and will be relevant as long as people do terrible things to other people…

As a rule I usually don’t ‘participate’ in the news but here are two things I would like to say re: today’s atrocity in Paris.

1. As a proposition, calling Islam ‘The Religion Of Peace’ is quite incorrect as your black swans have assault rifles and very strong convictions

2. You can’t have ‘fundamentalists’ without ‘fundamentals’. And I am not playing with semantics – if you read the Quran you will find plenty of clearly worded justification/instruction for intolerance and atrocity. True story.

I would also imagine that the lives of Muslims in the West are going to get a lot more uncomfortable in the coming weeks.

Also, I will continue to have Muslim friends.

Lots of love from ‘Dar Al Harb’, will you please stop trying to take away our right to express ourselves?

#Poem – 14.11.15 / Paris, 2015

Note: I wrote this as a response to the atrocities that occurred at the Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris, 2015. I believe it is still relevant and will be relevant as long as people do terrible things to other people…

Perhaps
today
you are
an idealist
with a broken heart,
or
perhaps
today
you are
a realist
ready to set the world to rights,
or
perhaps
today
you are
a pessimist
watching this world
as it goes up in flames.

Perhaps
today
you are
angry
or
scared
or
indignant
or
worse…

But
the last and truest human freedom
is to choose your beliefs
and, no matter what they do to you
the people
or the world you love
and no matter how much they hurt you
infuriate you
or break your heart
your beliefs are your own.

And, should you surrender that freedom
and give into all the hatred;
that supremely fucked up world view
dressed up in the guise of justice
and
which has
no limits
and which is
all encompassing
and
that advocates death
as a solution
to the problems
that people have created…

…then they have won.

And
all
this
shit
will
never,
ever
end.
