In the morning I
Will be sober and you will
Still be beautiful
In the morning I
You might see
Of personal places
Encased in concrete.
Love and life
Nestled into the carapace of the superstructure.
The vertical convergence
You could count them:
These people piled high,
Tenants in tenements
That stretch to the sky.
All of them reclaiming
Their god given birthright
To a sense of space
And a place
No matter how small
That they can call their own
You will not be here
I will not be here
Everyone you love
Will not be here
The tenuous framework that holds us all together
Will have lost the war on entropy
But today we are
And so existence is
And short term reversal
In the cosmic short position
You exist as
A big ‘fuck you’
To the heat death of the universe
All things end
You make your peace with that
You make your peace with everything
Cultivate controversial friends from all walks of life to prevent your beliefs from turning to rock and your life from becoming an echo chamber.
Those who will not or cannot change will have change done to them.
And the suffering
And the perpetuation
For a kind of understanding
We could have come to
In no other way.
It is so that
When you suffer tomorrow
I can be there for you.
Are you trying to please everybody?
These people can’t even please themselves.
Note: I wrote this as a response to the atrocities that occurred at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris, 2015. I believe it is still relevant and will be relevant as long as people do terrible things to other people…
As a rule I usually don’t ‘participate’ in the news but here are two things I would like to say re: today’s atrocity in Paris.
1. As a proposition, calling Islam ‘The Religion Of Peace’ is quite incorrect as your black swans have assault rifles and very strong convictions
2. You can’t have ‘fundamentalists’ without ‘fundamentals’. And I am not playing with semantics – if you read the Quran you will find plenty of clearly worded justification/instruction for intolerance and atrocity. True story.
I would also imagine that the lives of Muslims in the West are going to get a lot more uncomfortable in the coming weeks.
Also, I will continue to have Muslim friends.
Lots of love from ‘Dar Al Harb’, will you please stop trying to take away our right to express ourselves?

with a broken heart,
ready to set the world to rights,
watching this world
as it goes up in flames.
the last and truest human freedom
is to choose your beliefs
and, no matter what they do to you
or the world you love
and no matter how much they hurt you
or break your heart
your beliefs are your own.
And, should you surrender that freedom
and give into all the hatred;
that supremely fucked up world view
dressed up in the guise of justice
and which is
that advocates death
as a solution
to the problems
that people have created…
…then they have won.
The difference between a ‘sign’ and ‘mere coincidence’ is what you make of it.
This universe is full of as much meaning as you are able to experience.
And now here is a picture of a goat smiling at the camera….
